Mixing Public Ideas and Private Feedback

Eric Fung Admin

We're all about getting you involved in what we're creating. Sometimes, we throw big idea parties (like contests) where everyone's invited, and other times, we gather a small crew for a secret mission (think focus groups). Plus, we love giving you sneak peeks to keep things exciting. Here's how we're making magic happen. How you do this can make and break your Building in Public strategy.

Big Idea Parties (Public Challenges and Competitions)

  • Samsung's Open Call: Imagine Samsung asking everyone for ideas to make the world better. That's what they do with their Samsung Tomorrow Solutions contest. It's like a creativity festival, and it helps them find brilliant ideas while making everyone feel part of something big.
  • Local Motors' Car Revolution: These guys are changing how cars are made by asking folks like you and me for ideas. They even made a self-driving bus called "Olli" based on what people suggested. Talk about riding into the future together!

Secret Missions (Private Focus Groups)

  • While I can't spill all the beans (because, well, they're secret), imagine us inviting a few of you to a special room where you can tell us exactly what you think. It's like being part of a superhero team that helps us polish our gadgets before they save the world.

Sneak Peeks (Exclusive Looks)

LEGO's Creative Club: With the LEGO Ideas platform, fans can submit their own LEGO set ideas. The coolest part? If your idea wins, it gets made into an actual LEGO set, and you get a piece of the action (literally, in sales). It's like seeing your dream LEGO castle come to life

Mozilla's Code Camp: They're all about getting tech wizards from around the globe to help make their software, like the Firefox browser, better. Imagine getting to add your own spell to the potion that millions use to surf the web.

What This Means for Us

By mixing public contests with private chats, and giving you behind-the-scenes looks, we're not just building products; we're building them with you. Whether it's your wild new idea or your sharp feedback in a private chat, you're helping us make something we all love.

We're cooking up more ways to get you into the mix, from public challenges where your ideas can shine to exclusive sneak peeks just for our closest pals. Even this sharing here, we will continue to add to it. Got a bright idea or want to join our next secret mission? (I want to make it fun as well as a learning for you too)
