Turning Social into Subscribers and Paid Customers

Eric Fung Admin

I was figuring out how to turn all our cool social media friends (yeah, that's you!) into email buddies or even into folks who are our paid customers for our search engine.

But guess what, we came up with some neat funnels to make it happen. We started sharing super special stuff like secret discounts, early peeks at new products, and even exclusive stuff just for our email list. Plus, some people do some super creative with giveaways and contests that you could join just by giving us your email. And, oh boy, did our email family grow! It also made our social media spots even more fun to hang out in.

1. Crafting Compelling Incentives:

First off, to get our social media pals to hit that subscribe button or start shopping, we knew we had to offer something really cool. Something so awesome that you'd feel like you were missing out if you didn't grab it.

In the vast digital landscape, capturing the attention of your audience requires more than just appealing content; it demands an irresistibly valuable offer. Here, we embark on a journey to explore how exclusive content, significant discounts, and early access to products can serve as powerful motivators for social media followers to take the leap into becoming email subscribers or even loyal customers. By providing unique value that resonates with their interests and needs, we create a win-win scenario that enhances user engagement and fosters brand loyalty.

  • Exclusive Content: Imagine getting secret guides, super helpful how-tos, or behind-the-scenes videos that no one else can see. Like, if you're all about staying fit, we could send you special workout videos that only need stuff you've got lying around the house.
  • Discounts and Promotions: We also thought, "Hey, who doesn't love saving money?" So, we started giving special discounts or deals just for our new email friends, making it super tempting to sign up and maybe even buy something right away.
  • Early Access: And we didn't stop there. We let our social followers get the first look at all the cool new stuff we're working on. It's like being part of an exclusive club where you're always in the know.

2. Leveraging Giveaways and Contests

We also got super into hosting giveaways and contests because they're just so much fun and a great way to get everyone excited. Engagement and excitement are the lifeblood of social media marketing, and what better way to amplify these elements than through Leveraging Giveaways and Contests?

This strategy is about more than just offering rewards; it's about creating a dynamic and interactive experience that captivates your audience. By thoughtfully aligning the prizes with your brand's identity and the interests of your target audience, and by incorporating elements of social sharing and public recognition, we not only expand our reach but also build a community centered around shared excitement and appreciation.

  • Relevance of Prizes: We made sure the prizes were something you'd actually want, like if we're all about beauty stuff, we'd give away a basket of our top picks.
  • Social Sharing for Extra Entries: And we made it even more fun by saying, "Hey, if you share this with your friends, we'll give you more chances to win!" This way, more people find out about the cool stuff we're doing.
  • Highlighting Winners: After the contest, we'd shout out the winners for everyone to see, making it super clear that these contests are for real and that real people like you are winning.

3. Implementing a Seamless Signup Process

We knew that if signing up was a big hassle, no one would want to do it. So, we made it super easy. The journey from casual social media observer to committed email subscriber should be as smooth and straightforward as possible. Implementing a Seamless Signup Process is crucial in minimizing barriers and maximizing conversion rates. Many startups, including us, we do demos or calls to help those founders and users who want to use our search engine.

In this segment, we focus on the importance of creating a user-friendly signup experience that respects the user's time and attention. By integrating direct sign-up links, simplifying forms, and providing immediate value upon subscription, we lay the groundwork for a lasting relationship with our audience. Learn how to refine this process to ensure that every interaction with your brand is a step towards deeper engagement and loyalty.

The Shopify link below here, has really good strategies and practices for using signup that translates into discounts that will turn into sales. https://www.shopify.com/au/blog/discounts-and-coupons#6

  • Direct Sign-Up Links: We put links everywhere – in our bio, in our posts, and even had those cool "Swipe Up" stories where you could sign up right there and then.
  • Simplified Signup Forms: Our sign-up form? Super simple. Just your email, and boom, you're in. We didn't want you to fill out a whole quiz just to get some cool emails from us.
  • Instant Gratification: Right after you sign up, we make sure you get something awesome straight away. Like a discount you can use now, or a secret video that only you get to see.

There are loads of videos of creators teaching how to grow your email list or instagram followers, but the most effective I found is the message button. It gives you back that human touch to it, and many potential customers like this. Below is a video of adding that message button on Instagram.

So, that's the scoop on how we turned our social media pals into email buddies and even got some of them to buy our cool stuff. It's all about making sure you all feel special and get something awesome out of it. By focusing on giving you cool content, fun contests, and making it super easy to join the party, we're not just growing our email list; we're building a big, happy community.

And honestly, that's the best part of all this. Love to hear your comments and how you used this in your startup in the comments below.
