Eric Fung Admin

As a startup founder, navigating the waters of digital marketing, especially in the realms of social media and email integration, has been a fascinating journey for me. Allow me to share some strategies and insights that have proven particularly effective for my startup. This is probably the most important HOW in this entire BIP sharing. So, here, Im going to explain our Creating a Balanced Social Media Presence (40/20/20/20).

1. Connecting with Audience (40%)

The primary goal here is to connect with your audience on a personal level by creating content that resonates with them, whether it's through humor, inspirational stories, or interactive posts. The essence of creating a balanced social media presence lies in crafting a multifaceted approach that speaks directly to the hearts and minds of your audience.

This isn’t just about pushing content; it’s about fostering a vibrant, interactive community around your brand. By diversifying your content to include humor, inspiration, and engagement opportunities, you create a dynamic environment that invites participation and fosters a deeper connection. This strategy recognizes the varied interests and engagement styles of your audience, ensuring there’s something for everyone. The ultimate goal is to transform passive viewers into active participants, creating a loyal community that feels personally connected to your brand and its values.

Strategies for Enhancement:

  • Interactive Content: Utilize polls, quizzes, and interactive videos to engage your audience. Tools like Instagram Stories and Twitter polls are great for this.
  • User-Generated Content: Encourage your followers to share their stories and experiences with your brand. This provides you with authentic content and increases community engagement.
  • Live Sessions: Boost audience interaction by regularly hosting live Q&A sessions, behind-the-scenes tours, or product demonstrations.

Examples and Expansion:

  • Interactive Content: Netflix often engages viewers with interactive content, such as their interactive movie experiences, which allow viewers to make decisions that affect the story's outcome. Similar strategies on social media can include interactive stories where followers vote on what product feature to develop next or what topic they want for your next blog post.
  • User-Generated Content: GoPro excels by encouraging users to share their adventure videos using the hashtag #GoPro. This strategy provides GoPro with engaging content and showcases the quality of their cameras. They do this extremely well, on many social media channels including Youtube, Instagram and Tik Tok.
  • Live Sessions: Brands like Sephora conduct live sessions on Instagram, offering makeup tutorials with their products. This engages their audience and drives interest in the products used.

2. Inform and Educate (20%)

Aim to provide value to your audience through educational content, such as industry insights, product tutorials, or expert interviews. The focus is on enriching your audience's knowledge.

Education is a powerful tool in digital marketing, serving multiple purposes: it positions your brand as an authoritative voice in your industry, it enriches your audience's experience with your brand by providing them with valuable knowledge, and it subtly guides them through the customer journey by informing their decisions. By sharing educational content, you’re not just informing your audience; you’re also building trust and credibility. Whether it’s through deep-dives into industry trends, practical advice, or how-to guides, this approach ensures that every interaction with your brand adds tangible value to your audience's personal or professional lives. It transforms your social media platforms and email campaigns into a resource hub that users turn to, not just for products or services, but for insights and education.

Strategies for Enhancement:

  • Blog Posts: Share summaries or insights from your latest blog posts, driving traffic to your website.
  • Infographics and Visuals: Make complex information accessible through well-designed infographics and visuals.
  • Webinars and Workshops: Position yourself as a thought leader by offering free webinars or workshops on industry-relevant topics.

  • Webinars and Workshops: LinkedIn hosts webinars and workshops, adding value to their community and reinforcing their position as a thought leader.

3. Share Stories and Testimonials (20%)

Build trust and credibility by showcasing real-life applications of your products or services through stories and testimonials. It's about creating an emotional resonance with your audience. This strategy taps into the power of narrative, allowing potential customers to see themselves in the stories you share.

By highlighting real-life applications, challenges overcome, and the tangible benefits enjoyed by your customers, you humanize your brand and demonstrate the real-world impact of your offerings. This not only builds trust and credibility but also leverages social proof in a way that's both authentic and compelling. It’s about painting a picture of possibility and transformation that your audience can relate to, aspire to, and trust.

Strategies for Enhancement:

  • Customer Spotlights: Feature stories from satisfied customers or clients, using video testimonials or written case studies.
  • Collaborations with Influencers: Partner with influencers who can share genuine experiences with your product, amplifying your reach and credibility.
  • Before and After Sequences: Share before and after results of using your product, providing visual proof of its effectiveness.

Examples and Expansion:

  • Customer Spotlights: Airbnb highlights stories from hosts and travelers, illustrating the diversity of experiences enabled by their platform.
  • Collaborations with Influencers: Fashion brand Revolve outfits influencers in their clothing on exotic trips, effectively leveraging the influencers' followings.
  • Before and After Sequences: Fitness brands like Peloton inspire others by sharing real user stories of significant health improvements.

4. Promotional Content (20%)

The Objective: While the aim is to sell, ensure the approach adds value or offers something unique to your audience. This includes exclusive offers, product launches, and special events. While the primary aim of promotional content is to drive sales, the approach must be nuanced and value-driven to resonate with today’s savvy consumers. This means moving beyond simple product pitches to create promotions that feel exclusive, personalized, and genuinely beneficial.

By offering exclusive discounts, early access to new products, or behind-the-scenes looks at product development, you’re doing more than selling; you’re inviting your audience into a special club where their loyalty is rewarded. This strategy not only incentivizes purchases but also strengthens the emotional bond between your brand and its followers. It’s about creating moments of excitement, anticipation, and exclusivity that elevate the shopping experience from transactional to memorable.
